Historical Uses:

Sandalwood’s powerful medicinal properties have been known for over 5000 years. It is possibly the most versatile essential oil, historically used to treat hundreds of ailments ranging from heart health to healing scars. However, it is best known for its powerful ability to calm and relax the mind and body. This is likely why it became such an important element in many religious practices and ceremonies.

Sandalwood in the Bible:

In the Bible, Sandalwood is often referred to as "aloes" and is mentioned for its fragrance and use in holy anointing oils. One significant mention is in the Gospel of John, where Nicodemus brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes (sandalwood) to anoint Jesus' body after His crucifixion (John 19:39-40).

Superior Quality of East Indian Sandalwood:

East Indian Sandalwood (Santalum album) is considered the finest and most therapeutic variety of sandalwood essential oil. The heartwood of Santalum album trees in India produces an oil that is highly prized for its rich, sweet, woody aroma and its superior therapeutic properties. The quality and concentration of santanols, the active constituents, are significantly higher in East Indian Sandalwood compared to other varieties.

In contrast, Sandalwood oils from Australia (Santalum spicatum), Hawaii (Santalum paniculatum), and other sources tend to have a different chemical composition and aroma profile, often being less potent and less effective for therapeutic use. These other varieties, while still beneficial, do not match the depth of fragrance or the range of therapeutic benefits offered by true East Indian Sandalwood.
